Yes, I'm Legit In Love

The obvious answers to "How have you been?", "How is life?" and its other iterations are either you reply saying it's (1) good or bad, or (2) kebs or keribels (something new I learned last month). Lately, I found myself musing on a totally different response: "I'm in love!"

Alat, bro.

Yes, ladies and germs, that kid on the radio is in love--after what, close to 10 months of... aggressive flirtation with the general public...? I really dunno how to word "lantarang paglalandi" in English. Ha ha.

If you're gonna ask me to spill on who this person is, there's a fat chance that I would give you a blank stare and quip "No comment, next question." Who I'm seeing right now is really irrelevant to this blog post (and this blog in general) only because what I want to write about is the experience of that kind of love; what I'm feeling, and hopefully make you guys can realize what you have and appreciate it more OR realize what you don't have and make you want to find that person who genuinely loves you for who you are!

What do I mean when I say "I'm in love!", if people ask me how I've been? For starters, if you're trying to flirt with me, it basically means GTFAFM, fully perfumed and tied with a ribbon. Kidding aside, it means I'm feeling everything imaginable! Happiness coupled with bouts of sadness, joy and pain, frustration and anger mixed with fear, side-by-side with glee, calm and glimmers of hope--all in healthy doses. But if there's one thing I'm feeling that notably stands out from everything else, it's contentment. I feel content to the point that I can honestly say that I couldn't wish for anything better for myself because I know I'm not settling. Mediocrity is soooo summer of 2011. BoomHa ha.

Anything else, aside from being a walking smorgasbord of emotions? Well, I'm also trying to say that I'm trying to be a better person. It's a "me" that's trying to be the best for someone else, aside from myself; a "me" that's living a life for two without being selfish--something I haven't really done in close to 2 years. It also means that my playlist on my iTunes is different: I can't seem to sing to sad, emo songs with as much emotion as I used to. simply put, hindi ko na sya feel. Happy songs and good vibes all the way for this radio disc jock.

One more thing that I'm trying to say is that I've forgiven myself. Pretty long stretch, huh? Let's just say that I'm that one person that gives myself a really tough time. I guess that failed relationship from a couple of years back took such a toll on me that I blamed myself for all of the wrongs that came out of that 2 year romance. I realized that I didn't allow myself much happiness after that; that I didn't let myself fall in love and let myself deserve anything near the idea. I guess I was beating myself up over it for so long that I just basically made myself believe that I didn't deserve to be happy; or loved for that matter.

So. Sino ba 'sya? Ha ha. I figured that I'm gonna keep it to myself and to my close group of friends for a while only because I want to try to build it some more before I can confidently tell everyone that this person is the person that I want to spend my whole life with. So until then, secret muna. Ha ha.

Rounding of with something I got out of a discussion in my Philosophy class about the nature of love, and here it goes: "Love is not about wanting to make your partner a better person. It's about wanting to be what's best for that person so she/he won't look for anything else." 'Til the next post!

To Blog or Not to Blog?

Aside from being the author of this blog, that kid on the radio is also that kid in the university, that kid who's part of a big family, that kid who's always surrounded by friends and he's also that kid doing tons of other things. Yes, just like any college-drained teenager living in the 21st century, the call of doing anything that does not involve higher brain functions is always top priority.

To be fairly honest, as much as I am in love with writing, it does take up a lot of time (well for me, at least because I'm criminally meticulous) and time is more-or-less a luxury for junior year college students. No time for friends, night-outs, radio and everything else synonymous to fun, all in the name of academic advancement!

Case-in-point? I made the conscious decision to stay for an extra 5 hours in the library after classes got suspended due to a raging typhoon just to finish a comparative politics paper, due in 2 days! Top it of with having to read 3 books in a span of a week and BAM! Junior year sucks.

Of course, I do have enough time for Photobooth but then again, writing is a toootally different matter. Will try to update as much though, but that's not something to count on! Unless of course its earth-shattering and I just felt like writing a soliloquy about it. Ha ha. 'Til the next post!

Call Me Maybe? Ano Daw?!

After a 3 month-long hiatus, I'm back in the blogosphere! Just in case you all were wondering where I've been and what I've been up to (which is a LOT), Imma have to ask you guys to chill first because I have to submit this online blog post for a Filipino project. It's graded, so please, bear with me as I attempt to deconstruct and analyze "Call Me Maybe" by Carly Jepsen in full-on Filipino, in 500 words or less! #lezzgow!

"Call Me Maybe." Isang Billboard Hot 100 chart topper.

Those Kids on The Radio Are On The Newspaper!

A normal drive to school for the summer semester would consist of 3 things that always happen. In chronological order, (1) My mom telling me I'm incredibly late for my 9 AM class, (2) breakfast in the car and (3) "The Morning Rush."

On my way to Katipunan with my Dad, the first bit I caught as we turned on the radio was Gino, telling everyone to buy a copy of The Manila Bulletin because it featured all three of them on the Campuses & Schools section--a weekly special, published on Wednesdays. I sh*t you not, my Dad went ballistic and frantically looked for a "tak-tak boy" along C5! I finally convinced him to forego with the idea and have me buy one at the nearest convenience store instead, and as I went down, he handed me a thousand-Peso bill for a twenty-buck newspaper. LOL.

Just a quick tidbit: If there's one thing I admire about my Dad, it's the fact that even with drivers, he insists on driving and seeing off each and every one of us (5 kids) to wherever it is we have to go to in the morning. It doesn't matter if he's sick, tired or overworked, Dad would always be the one to give our day a head start--even with the crazy Manila traffic! With or without us kids in the car, Dad's constant companion while braving the raging streets of the cosmopolitan traffic would be the car's radio. Since getting into radio in 2008, Dad's been converted to being a listener of Monster Radio RX93.1--as if he has a choice. Ha ha. Since then, it's no secret in the family that my dad is a huge fan of The Morning Rush with Chico, Delamar & Gino. I remember that one time I saw my Dad get really "kilig" because Delle greeted him with a "Hi, Sir!" Priceless.

After reading the lengthy 2-page, photographed and colored interview of the hosts of the multi-awarded, longest-running and top-rated radio show--to which my Dad quipped "Anak, sa ibang station ba, ganyan ka-"good looking" and mga DJs?", I hastily folded the section to get to the other parts of the newspaper. Lo and behold, I came across THIS!

Funny how it really did take me a while to realize that it was us. For one, I half-forgot about the interview we had weeks ago. The fact that it was a full page, in full color was unbelievable too! I gotta be honest, being published in a major broadsheet not for a crime is a pretty great feeling--a perfect mix of pride, "kilig" and happy that got me smiling and giddy the whole day!

After much internet and text-blasting and the initial shock passed, it finally all came to me--something I failed to notice and it sunk in. They used this photo. Oh God, why.

Smack in the middle of the week, SMART--together with Styles Entertainment--introduced the NOKIA Lumia to tech-savy Filipinos at the NewPort Mall!

The SMART X NOKIA Lumia Private Launch Party

April 19 saw the Resorts World complex welcome the SMART X NOKIA crew as they showcased, demo'd and gave away NOKIA 710's to mall-goers, bloggers and celebrities alike. Hosted by "Survivor Philippines" star KC Montero and GMA7 "it-girl" Rhian Ramos, the press-conference at the Café Republiq was jam-packed, and as they told us all about the the NOKIA Lumia 710, shutterbugs snapped away at the celebrity hosting duo.

Chill Sunday Session @ The RX Studios

Another overdue post of what happened after Karen's birthday show (read all it HERE). I can't seem to stop saying just how much crazy fun last Sunday at the RX booth was. For starters, most of us Radio1 peeps haven't seen each other in close to a month--which isn't much but a lot has been happening in our personal lives that we just had to get together and catch up. What was originally a planned lunch date plus moviefest ended up being a bum session at the station on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

with fellow Radio1 jocks Kharla, Nikita, Nikki V. & Ysa Chong

I came in pretty early for the 1 to 5 PM show which was a good thing. I've been out of it for a while-- partly because of exams, and partly because of the other projects I was busy with (gigs, shoots etc.)--and I guess I just needed time to take in the whole setting and psych myself up for a 4-hour board work with Karen and Nikita. A couple of minutes in, recent graduate Nikki V. from SPUQC came and we basically just chatted away. Sarah Carlos (or Kharla) arrived with Patrick after an hour or so and it was pretty much the 4 of us goofing around.

with fellow Radio1 jock Nikki V.

Patrick with Radio1 jock Sarah Carlos (Kharla)

Finishing the show a little past 5 PM, I was surprised to see Sarah take control of the console and run the next show 'til half-past-8 all by herself, joined the "always late, but always fabulous" Ysa who came in last minute. We also had a lot of guests that day too! A group of guys who I dubbed "Karen's Fan Club" came in bringing her presents; they were pretty much silent so I figured that they were just star struck from seeing K. Also in the booth were Nikita's little brother Chris or "Nikito" and Radio1 hopeful Hervin, both incoming freshmen in the Ateneo.

with fellow Radio1 jock Nikki V.

Hervin & Chris a.k.a. Nikito

Nick coming in was the surprise of the night though, and as usual, cyber raped everyone's online accounts. It all got even better when Karen's sister Joyce came in with pizza--the epitome of teenage "tambay mode" food!

(L-R) Radio1 jocks EJ, Kharla, Nikita, Nikki V., Ysa Chong & Nick

The day was spent singing along to songs, talking in between commercial breaks, chasing each other around the booth and eating pizza--all while having a hearty laugh and big smiles. If you're wondering how we do it over here on the Monster, it's all about fun, friendship and family!

Good vibes, great company, awesome day for the books. 'Til the next post!

Happy Birthday, Karen!

Something that's a little overdue--a blog post about the crazy fun that was at the RX Studios last Sunday! If you've been out of the loop, last April 15 was the beautiful Karen Bordador's birthday which was celebrated by a full house inside the booth. For those of you unfamiliar with the antics of "Teacher K", Karen is 2011's "RoRo Girl Search" winner, winning a coveted spot in the roster of Monster talents. Moving up, she's now a co-host in her own right--the other half of the all new, already-talked-about show, "Primetime!"

(L-R) Radio1 jock Nikita, Karen Bordador and Radio1 jock EJ

Out of the new batch of Monsters, Karen's definitely the feistiest and the sweetest, and I was lucky enough to be invited to join and co-host her first-ever Hip26 show. Although I had plans for that particular Sunday to get together with some of the Radio1 jocks, we all figured to just hang out in the booth to celebrate Karen's birthday and benefit from the free air-conditioning!

Staging a 4 hour radio show was incredibly fun--I've been out for almost a month--as we were also joined by fellow Radio1 Nikita (who's always a pleasure to work with--and is a Karen look-alike). Aside from hip-hop and R&B, the day was all about Teacher K! Tons of greets, song requests and phone calls--great way to cap off the afternoon.

Wondering what's a perfect gift for her birthday? Easy enough, vote for her on FHM Philippine's 100 Sexiest Women of the World for 2012! Learn all about how to do that HERE.

Happy birthday, K! The first one (with more to come) as a bona fide Monster! 'Til the next post!

New 'Do!

First off, a Happy Easter to everybody celebrating the holiday! If you aren't though, wishing you a good holiday is as close as I can get! Just a quick entry for today, as a lot of people were shocked (my parents included) on my most recent choice for a... hairstyle. LOL. This post is nothing earth-shattering, really. I just felt like blogging about my nonchalant Sunday.

As you all know, I pretty much sported an average Joe haircut--nothing awe-inspiring or lame. Just very... "ordinary." The heat's been getting to me a lot lately, along with the laziness of summer so I decided to sport the old military buzz I would usually get for the summer season: adequately short and incredibly manageable. After the usual Easter Sunday celebrations and lunch at Bubble Tea Greenhills with my brothers, sister and parents, I headed off to the salon at the Eastwood City Walk and halfway through my buzz cut, I basically told the stylist to stop cutting and keep it that way: just a hunch, I guess? It turned out pretty great!

caption reads: "Lunch with the familly at Bubble Tea GH! Happy easter, errbody!"

The sides are pretty much reduced to a millimeter with the top sporting a full head of hair--pretty drastic, but I'm glad I stuck with it--something new to match the goatee and the stubble I've been trying to grow.

before the haircut

after the haircut

If you're wondering where I got it done, it's a no-brainer! If there's one place I trust with my hairstyling worries, it's AZTA Urban Salon--a chain of hairstyling salons with branches all over Metro Manila. Reasonably and competitively priced (with haircuts averaging from 180 to 300, depending on the stylist), it's a perfect fit for budget-savvy students like me! I'm pretty much meticulous myself so when I say they get it right, that's a good thing! Pretty much all branches I frequent have a very attentive set of front desk staff; AZTA stylists and their assistants pay attention to detail and what the clients want, and personally, it's a plus that all branches smell like coconut cream (I know it's weird, but shoot me, I love it). How often do I visit? Before every hosting gig, which is pretty much every week or so only because my hair grows crazy-fast! I personally recommend visiting either the Eastwood branch (book either Ms. Angie or Mr. Jojie) or the Katipunan branch (book either Mr. Modie or Mr. Mark). Who knows, we might run into each other!

AZTA Urban Salon

Capped the day with dinner at Don Henrico's at the BrickRoad with my youngest brother, Eric, a.k.a. mini-me: pretty much a nostalgia trip, as their pizza was something I enjoyed growing up! After downsizing to only a handful of branches, Don Henrico's is pretty much a hard-to-find haunt nowadays. Hopefully, more accessible branches will come, but for now, braving the horrendous traffic of Cainta will have to do.

Huge thanks to Ms. Angie from the Eastwood branch for this one, and Sir John Bantigue for helping me call it last minute! Check out their Facebook account for more details on their full line of services, prices and branch list!

So, what's the verdict? Hit or miss? Ha ha. Again, Happy Easter to everybody!

Cleaning Out My Closet

I know I said that I would stave off from posting for the holidays, but plans for today hit a snag because Dad's running a really high fever--during the holiday, of all times. Dad only gets sick like what: once or twice a year? Whyyyyy. Boo. Get well soon, Dad! By Easter, I hope.

Forgoing church visits and dropping by a couple of relatives' houses, I resolved to make the day productive by cleaning out my closet--something I've been postponing to do only because it can get incredibly tedious when you have 2 closets. If you think that's bad, that's already downsized from an amassed 4!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not some sort of fashionista or a metrosexual on spending steroids with multiple pieces of one shirt in all available colors. Aside from being a procrastinator, my friends would agree with me when I say that I'm a hoarder--kind of like a mild case of that reality show. So aside from taking forever to muster the willpower to clean out clutter, I tend to keep a lot of things in storage, so-much-so that whenever I do, whatever turns up amuses me so much that I get delayed from finishing the job even more! LOL. And it's the summer so BAM! Twice as lazy.

my room

Half of the job was done as last week as I decided to clean my room in general--sans my wardrobe (click HERE for photos) so when the unexpected free time came up, I set to it! After lunch, I pretty much hauled everything out of the drawers and off of the hangers, dumping everything on the wooden floor. First thing that came up were my old test papers from the whole school year (yes, judge me now) and next came the comic books and the old photos--always a treat because most printed photos I have were taken during my high school days (which I'll probably blog about soon enough!).

Just like any visually obsessive-compulsive neat-freak, the first thing I did was to sort out everything that was still wearable into different categories: (1) shorts, (2) blue jeans, (3) skinny jeans, (4) slacks, (5) dress shirts, (6) long-sleeved dress shirts, (7) collared shirts, (8) t-shirts I would always wear, (9) t-shirts I would rarely wear, (10) souvenir t-shirts (which I never wore), (11) tanks & shorts for house use, (12) tanks & shorts for gym use, (13) boxers, (14) briefs and my personal favorite: (15) boxer-briefs. Excluding accessories and bags of course. Ha ha.

my dresser

The folding came next: pretty much a routine so it wasn't much of a hassle, but the hard part was convincing myself to stand up and put everything back in the closet. Argh.

Once that got out of the way, I went through all the clothes I decided to give away--being the utilitarian that I am, you can pretty much figure out the state of the clothes I dubbed un-wearable. The shirts were pretty much either old and worn-out or over-sized--most of which were free from hosting gigs. I've always wondered why for some reason, student orgs think that free t-shirts are enough to pacify a sans talent-fee pro-bono host. Boo. Some of the clothes were just bad, like, looked bad--borderline Cher, but I think we all went through that stage where you're trying to figure out your own style yadda-yadda-yadda. Horrible fashion choices aside, I managed to fill up a whole garbage bag which other people might find useful. Or not. Whoops.

Next were the shoes--what my mom would call my "luho." If there's one thing I love buying with no hesitation, it's a nice pair of shoes. It's ridiculous. I've half of the pairs I own inside my room and I've pretty much distributed the others to my other brothers' and sister's shoe spaces because I've no space to put 'em anymore. Judge me!

All-in-all, I think today has been productive. Though I couldn't manage the strength and the will to make a visit to the gym for a long-overdue session with my trainer, at least my closet looks neat. And my room.

What have YOU been doing? 'Til the next post!
